1. Xiamen welcomes New Zealand's Ambassador to China

Chen Qiuxiong, deputy Party secretary of Xiamen, met with a delegation led by Clare Fearnley, New Zealand's Ambassador to China, on Oct 21. Chen briefed them on the city's economic, social, and industrial development.

Chen said that Xiamen is a pivotal city along the Belt and Road and has been committed to reform and opening-up over the past several years.

Xiamen and New Zealand have a long history of economic cooperation add people-to-people exchanges. Xiamen and New Zealand's capital city of Wellington have carried out cooperation in areas such as agriculture, economy and trade, culture, education, and tourism, Chen added.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year, the two cities have helped each other out and donated medical supplies through various channels, demonstrating the profound friendship between the two peoples, according to Chen.

Clare Fearnley spoke highly of Xiamen's fight against the pandemic, and thanked Xiamen for its generous support for Wellington. She added that New Zealand plans to strengthen cooperation with Xiamen and promote the development of cooperative projects between the two sides.

2. Xiamen, Israel vow to deepen cooperation

A delegation led by Peleg Lewi, consul-general of Israel in Guangzhou, paid a visit to Xiamen and met with Lin Jian, vice-mayor of the city, on Oct 27.

Xiamen, one of China's first four special economic zones, established in 1980, is an important foreign trade port for the country and a window between China and the outside world. Israel is one of the world's leading countries in terms of innovative development, according to Lin.

Lin added that the Belt and Road Initiative has helped Xiamen and Israel develop a solid foundation and broad space for economic and trade cooperation, scientific and technological innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. The two sides plan to further strengthen cooperation.

3. Xiamen, ANA to promote economic recovery

Li said that Xiamen places great importance on friendly relations with ANA, and that the city will work with ANA to boost people-to-people exchanges and facilitate the economic recovery of China and Japan.

An ANA representative said that its number of international flights has decreased drastically due to the COVID-19 epidemic, while its air cargo business reported growth during this period, helping boost industry confidence during the current difficult time.
