Japan's 86-year-old "Rice Fairy", who has been famous for cooking rice for more than half a century, came to make "Silver Rice" for Xiamen citizens on July 8.
Murashima Mou, who is known as the "Rice Fairy" by his native Japanese, has a profound affection for rice, following his sorrowful experience of hunger during the war when he was young. "Being able to have a bowl of steaming hot rice was enough to bring happiness", said the 86-year-old kindly senior man.
These days, Murashima Mou runs a popular diner called "Ginsyariya Gekotei" in Osaka. He makes "Silver Rice" there using traditional methods and has a limit of 500 meals daily. It is necessary to queue for this precious commodity since his “Silver Rice” is wonderfully delicious and has a certain sweet flavour that lasts even when it turns cold.
Last Friday's event, "Flavor of Silver Rice", hosted by Ajitasuke, a Japanese restaurant in Xiamen, has already been held twice in Xiamen's Huamei Park. On the night of July 7, Murashima Mou arrived in Xiamen and directly proceeded to the site of the event, where he checked the cooker he brought with him from Japan till late into the night. He smiled kindly during the introduction of the event on the 8th, yet became rather serious while cooking so as to focus on every little detail, in order to ensure the top quality of his "Silver Rice".
