Xiamen Airlines has launched a new direct passenger route between Xiamen and London Heathrow Airport, with the inaugural flight taking off on Sept 6, eliminating the need for travelers between Fujian province and the United Kingdom to transfer via a third hub and offering a direct intercontinental link for business, education, tourism, and cultural exchanges.
The route operates under flight numbers MF821 and MF822, using Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Flights are scheduled on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with each leg taking approximately 13 hours.
With Xiamen Airlines' existing route network, passengers traveling from overseas cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, and Bangkok, as well as major Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Changsha, can conveniently connect through Xiamen to London-bound flights.
The carefully coordinated schedules are designed to minimize layover times and streamline the overall journey, making long-haul travel smoother and more efficient.
Economic and cultural ties between China and the UK have been strengthening. Fujian, a major hometown of the overseas Chinese, has a sizable community in Britain, and the number of Fujian students heading to the UK continues to grow each year, with this sustained people-to-people flow driving rising demand for direct travel between the two regions.
The new Xiamen–London route not only offers more convenient options for travelers, but also supports Fujian's broader push for greater openness and closer China-Europe regional cooperation.
