Xiamen Airlines debuts UN SDG-themed flight for ocean conservation

(en.fao.xm.gov.cn) Updated:2026-08-11

Xiamen Airlines achieved a milestone on Aug 6 by launching its first flight themed around the United Nations' 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The "United Dream" aircraft, the world's only UN specially painted plane, operated the MF8118 route from Beijing Daxing International Airport to Xiamen.

Under the motto "United Dream, Sustainable Ocean", the airline brought the coastal city's maritime heritage to the skies, showcasing China's vision of harmony between people and the sea.

Xiamen Airlines was the world's first carrier to support the UN SDGs and is a member of the UN Global Compact (UNGC). For years, the airline has embedded green practices into every part of its operations.

During the flight, it officially released the Xiamen Airlines Sustainable Development Declaration on Ocean Conversation, committing to long-term action in marine conservation, low-carbon operations, and ecological partnerships. By aligning its corporate responsibility with the coastal city's identity, the airline aims to turn aviation into a meaningful force for protecting the world's oceans.

On this flight, the "United Dream" aircraft became a floating cultural gallery, with an ocean-themed event for passengers. The cabin design blended the airline's SDGs logo — symbolizing the 17 UN goals — with silhouettes of rare marine life like the Chinese white dolphin and Xiamen's iconic landmarks. The initiative was intended to raise awareness about ocean preservation and sustainability. This themed experience will run through Aug 31.

This themed flight represents Xiamen Airlines' latest step toward the UN SDGs and a sky-high showcase of Xiamen's green progress. Moving forward, the airline will keep advancing sustainable operations and inspiring passengers to join the cause — working together for a healthier, greener planet.
