Youth exchange concludes with vision for shared future

The Youth Development for a Shared Future Summer Camp 2026, hosted by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, brought together more than 80 young participants and their team leaders from 16 countries — including Pakistan, the Philippines, and Russia — for a week-long exchange lasting from July 19 to 25.

Over the course of the program, the group visited Beijing, Xiamen, and Quanzhou — three cities along the historic Maritime Silk Road. They explored Chinese culture, toured tech companies, and took part in cross-cultural exchanges with local youth.

At the Xiamen Ocean Gate Container Terminal and the Silk Road Maritime Operations Center, the group observed automated port operations, learned about the shipping routes under the Maritime Silk Road, and gained insights into international shipping cooperation — a vivid illustration of how China and partner countries are connecting and growing together under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The group explored the charming streets of Zengcuo'an and Gulangyu Island, admiring the coastal views and the unique mix of Chinese and Western architecture. At Piano Wharf, they joined young Chinese musicians for an impromptu sing-along and lively cultural exchange.

At a closing ceremony at Xiamen University, participants shared their takeaways from the trip and read a youth vision statement aloud. They called for greater youth involvement in Belt and Road cooperation, and many pledged to continue fostering cross-cultural understanding and people-to-people connections.
