Xiamen Airport saw its one-millionth inbound and outbound traveler of the year on March 24, seven days earlier than last year, marking the fastest time the port has ever reached the milestone since operations began.
The passenger arrived on flight MF892, which touched down at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport with 155 people on board.
A steady stream of favorable entry-exit policies in China, coupled with a sustained boom in both domestic and international tourism, has fueled rapid growth in passenger traffic at Xiamen Airport.
According to statistics, Xiamen Airport Customs had processed 1,000,700 inbound and outbound travelers and 7,001 flights by 6 am on March 24, up 8.31 percent and 1.97 percent year on year, respectively.
Inbound passengers totaled 493,500, up 9.25 percent, while outbound passengers reached 507,200, climbing 7.57 percent.
Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport currently operates 29 international passenger routes, connecting 20 countries and regions. The network forms an air corridor that spans intercontinental destinations, radiates across Southeast Asia, and links the two sides of the Taiwan Strait.
In a continued effort to improve passenger clearance efficiency, Xiamen Airport Customs has been pushing forward with its "Smart Customs" initiative. The customs authority has introduced an outbound "seamless clearance" model, along with an "advanced pre-screening for carry-on baggage" system for inbound travelers.
