The 2025 Xiamen International Friendship Concert, themed "Bonding Through Music", was held on Oct 28 at the Xiamen Jiageng Theatre, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Xiamen-Baltimore sister city relations.
More than 600 people attended the concert, including Baltimore representatives from the United States, foreign consulates in Xiamen, and foreign friends residing in the city.
The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, playing in China for the first time in 100 years, delivered a brilliant performance alongside the Xiamen Song and Dance Theatre Orchestra. Famous Chinese and foreign songs were performed at the concert, including The Waves of Gulangyu, which highlighted the friendship between China and the US.
Huang Yantian, a member of the Standing Committee of Xiamen Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and deputy general mayor of Xiamen, said that Xiamen and Baltimore have cooperated for 40 years, achieving success in areas such as youth exchanges, education, sanitation, and art.
He added that the two cities will strengthen exchanges and mutual learning, and deepen pragmatic cooperation to bring more benefits to the people of both countries.
Hosea Chew, director of administration for the Baltimore City Council, expressed his sincere gratitude to Xiamen for inviting the Baltimore delegation to participate in the event. He hopes that the friendship between the two cities will grow even stronger and their cooperation will become closer.
