Mohamed Ameen, senator of the People's National Congress (PNC) and Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Maldives led the delegation of the ruling coalition of the Maldives to visit Xiamen in Southeast China's Fujian province from Sept 20 to 22.
On Sept 20, Huang Yantian, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee and vice mayor of Xiamen, explained the latest economic and social developments of Xiamen and held in-depth discussions with Minister Ameen on promoting friendly cooperation and personnel exchanges between Xiamen and the Maldives.
Both sides hope to leverage existing direct flights to bring more Chinese tourists to the Maldives and encourage the entry of high-quality Maldivian seafood products, such as tuna, into the Chinese market.
The delegation visited Xiamen Airlines to discuss the sustainable operation of the Xiamen-Male direct flight. Both parties agreed to establish a joint working group to promote bilateral pragmatic cooperation.
During their visit to Xiamen, the delegation visited the Xiamen Ocean Economy Public Service Center and held discussions with experts from Xiamen University. The Maldivian delegation expressed a strong desire to enhance cooperation with Xiamen in aquaculture and maritime talent development in the future.
They also visited Gulangyu Island and the Xiamen Special Economic Zone Memorial Hall.
