Xiamen deepens exchanges with Durban on marine economy
Xiamen and Durban in South Africa, two sister cities both known as port cities, held a video conference on May 15.
The conference was on the development of marine economy, with the aim of deepening mutual learning and collaboration in the sector.
The conference was themed on using comprehensive coastal zone management as a key lever for the blue economy.
Around 200 participants from Durban attended the event, representing officials from various departments such as commerce, oceanography, planning, foreign affairs, and tourism, alongside experts and academics from universities in Durban.
Zhou Lumin, a Chinese marine economy expert, gave a presentation on Xiamen's experiences and practices in coastal zone management during the meeting.
The event was widely deemed to have further strengthened the relationship between Xiamen and Durban, while deepening Xiamen's exchanges and cooperation with BRICS countries.
Xiamen and Durban established the sisiter-city relationship in 2023.
