Xiamen, a coastal city in Fujian province, has been ramping up efforts to boost talent-led scientific and technological innovation and attract professionals from China and abroad.

The city has been honored as one of China's most attractive cities for talents for three consecutive years.

Xiamen's foreign academician workstation has introduced 34 outstanding PhDs from world-renowned universities; the city has opened an international talent attraction window that regularly releases thousands of high-quality job positions; key platforms such as Hailian Reception Hall, overseas innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, and Susong future industrial technology innovation competition have been introduced in recent years.

This year, Xiamen employed 1,924 international students and more than 3,200 international talents, a year-on-year increase of 10 percent.

Attracting elite talents is one of Xiamen's earliest and most long-standing policies. Since the launch of this policy in 1990, a total of 828 talents have been identified.

Talent from fields like advanced information technology, biomedicine and integrated circuits have participated in the development of the special economic zone and become a strong driving force in promoting high-quality economic and social development of the city.

Zhang Yong, chairman of Epihouse Optoelectronics Co Ltd, has led his team to solve the technical difficulties in optical communication and intelligent sensing in China, providing core power for industrial development. The company attracted IQE, a British semiconductor epitaxial wafer company, to jointly establish a compound semiconductor epitaxial wafer product center in Xiamen.

Xiamen will continue to focus on talent attraction, cultivation, utilization and retention, and take key measures such as building high-quality talent bases and expanding the scope of international vocational qualification recognition.
