Xiamen city was invited to participate in the South-South Online Knowledge and Experience Exchange on Innovative Urban Mobility hosted by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation on Dec 12.
Ren Guoyan, deputy director of Xiamen Transportation Bureau, shared the major achievements and innovative practices of Xiamen in urban transportation, including its efforts to optimize urban functional layout, promote the balance of local living and employment, improve the level of convenient transportation services, and enhance the ability of refined traffic management.
Zeng Jinji, deputy director general of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xiamen Municipal People's Government, expressed her gratitude to the South-South Office for its long-term support of Xiamen's international exchange work.
She shared with the participants how Xiamen is promoting pragmatic BRICS cooperation and carrying out works related to the Global Development Initiative. She said that she expects this video conference to be an opportunity to expand and deepen friendly relations with places like Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile.
Representatives from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile, Zhengzhou and Lishui in China, amongst others, held in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics of urban transportation planning, industrial support policies, and green and low-carbon travel.
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
