Liao Huasheng, vice-mayor of Xiamen city in East China's Fujian province, attended a reception held by the Royal Thai Consulate General in Xiamen to celebrate the Thai National Day on the evening of Dec 1.
Liao extended greetings to his Thai counterparts present at the event and emphasized on the close relationship shared by Xiamen and Thailand. He noted that people-to-people exchanges, sister city interactions, cultural and educational exchanges, and port cooperation between both sides have been increasing over the years.
He noted that Xiamen has been implementing the important reform tasks assigned by the central government, promoting high-level opening-up, and accelerating the construction of a new development pattern.
Liao also expressed his willingness to work together with the Consulate General of Thailand in Xiamen to build a bridge of cooperation and friendship, deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields, and bring Xiamen-Thailand cooperation to a new level.
Ms Nilobol Pimdee, the acting consul general of Thailand in Xiamen, said that China is Thailand's largest export destination for agricultural products, the largest source of investment and the largest trading partner, and that the longstanding traditional friendship between the two countries has been thriving.
The Consulate General of Thailand in Xiamen is committed to making its utmost efforts to promote Thailand's cooperation with Xiamen in various fields and further deepen people-to-people exchanges so as to write a new chapter in the friendly relations between the two countries.
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
