Xiamen sees convenience store business boom

(fao.xm.gov.cn) Updated:2022-12-16

For three years running, Xiamen has been at the top of China's urban convenience store development index, which was announced in September this year. The three-year growth rates were 21.02 percent, 10.34 percent, and 7.14 percent, respectively.

Xiamen's Siming district is home to a great variety of convenience stores and has the busiest industry in Xiamen overall. Along with well-known convenience stores like 7-Eleven and Lawson, the neighborhood also has smaller shops like Fook.

According to Zhang Li, chairman of Fook, the success of regional brands is essential to the success of the convenience store industry as a whole. Fook, a local brand, came in at number 12 among the top 100 Chinese convenience stores listed in 2021.

The development of the convenience store business also requires the support from the government. In past years, Xiamen has issued favorable policies and created an enabling environment for the continuous progress of the industry and has provided financial support for logistics and store openings.

At the same time, convenience stores in Xiamen have provided different goods according to local conditions. For example, in Siming district, which has large population, offers diversified products, but in Jimei district, which has a smaller population, only standardized industrial products are sold in the local convenience stores.
