The science and technology bureau of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province, the administration of Xiamen Torch High-tech Zone and the city's service center for foreign professionals organized a parent-child activity for local foreigners at Chengyi Discovery Center on Jan 26 to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year, which falls on Feb 1 this year.
More than 40 foreign professionals took their children to the activity to learn about the achievements of China's aerospace science and technology industry.
They were also treated to a huge block-made maze themed on the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and a tiger-themed New Year painting exhibition to usher in the Year of the Tiger on the lunar calendar.
"My children had a good time during the activity. They love ice and snow sports and are looking forward to the Beijing Winter Games," said Amro Abdelgawad, an Egyptian researcher at the Third Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Abdelgawad said that it will be the second time they have spent Chinese New Year in Xiamen and they hope there will be more such parent-child activities in the future.
Liezl, a teacher from South Africa, said the Chengyi Discovery Center is a great place for such activities and she will recommend it to her friends and will take her students to visit the center.
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
