In response to a call from the Xiamen Municipal People's Government for migrant workers and residents to stay put during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday, the Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen Municipal People's Government and the Xiamen Laozihao Association together carried out a special activity to entertain local expats during the break.
Kong Suting, deputy director of the Xiamen Foreign Affairs Office and Huang Yiping, deputy secretary general of the Xiamen Laozihao Association, visited the Guanren Global Community in Xiamen, Fujian provinceand met with some of the local expats on Feb 3. They brought the expats a heartwarming gift of traditional snacks from local time-honored brands.
During the visit, Kong said that last year, under the guidance of the municipal Party committee and the government, Xiamen achieved great results both in epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development. She said the result could not have been achieved without the joint efforts of the foreigners in Xiamen. She expressed her gratitude on behalf of the XMFAO to the expats for their help and support.
Kong also pointed out the importance of staying put in Xiamen during the Spring Festival. She said the move would not only help curb the spread of the virus, but would also help local foreigners gain a better insight into Chinese culture.
She said that during the holiday, the Xiamen government would prepare a rich cultural feast for both old and new Xiamen residents, to better experience the culture of southern Fujian and have an "unforgettable" Spring Festival in Xiamen
Deputy secretary-general Huang Yiping said that the Xiamen Laozihao Association represents a total of 112 registered time-honored brands. They have witnessed the process of Xiamen's modernization and internationalization, she said.
She said the association will make more contributions to the internationalization of Xiamen in the future and continue to cooperate with the XMFAO to provide quality services for foreigners in Xiamen.
Wu Yun, secretary of the Guanren Global Community, expressed her gratitude to the XMFAO for its care and guidance on the international development of the community. Wu added that the community will spare no effort to ensure and enrich the life and work of the foreigners in Xiamen.

The Xiamen Laozihao Association is registered with the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Civil Affairs. It is a non-profit body representing time-honored brands with leading reputations in the city. The association adheres to the aim of "protecting resources, enhancing brands, inheriting classics and carrying forward culture" and is committed to the identification, protection and promotion of local brand culture and to building a bridge between government and enterprises. It also focuses on the reform and innovation of these brands, as well combining their brand culture with tourism and trade, promoting Xiamen's brands to the world.
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
