1. XMFAO holds election for new Party committee

The Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province held an election for its new Party committee and the commission for discipline inspection on Jan 13.
Wang Xiaojie, Wang Xinna, Zhang Guoxing, Chen Chunhong, Yao Jianhong, Guo Lin, and Gong Wenhua, as well as Wang Xiaojie, Zhang Lili, and Zha Yongbin were chosen for the committee and commission respectively through a secret ballot in the competitive election.
Li Xiaoping, director of the office, congratulated them and gave his requirements on works in the next five years.
Li said that the new members should be clear about their responsibilities, make every effort to serve the people, and work to improve their own abilities.
2. Provincial delegation inspects progress of BRICS innovation center in Xiamen
A delegation headed by Wang Tianming, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Fujian province, visited Xiamen from Jan 13 to 14 to inspect the construction progress on the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution innovation center.
Wang said that the center will bring unprecedented development opportunities to Fujian and Xiamen, as well as that the provincial government is looking for good programs to further boost its opening-up and high-quality development.
Officials of Xiamen agreed with Wang, stating that Xiamen will make full use of its advantages as the host city of the ninth BRICS Summit and build the innovation center into an opening economic demonstration zone for the BRICS countries.
The BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution innovation center was launched in Xiamen on Dec 8, 2020, as proposed during the 12th BRICS Summit in mid-November last year.
The center is expected to provide a foothold for BRICS countries to make use of technological innovation and digital transformation brought by the new industrial revolution.
3. XMFAO makes work plans for 2021

The Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen in East China's Fujian province held an annual work meeting on Jan 22 to review its work in 2020 and make plans for 2021.
"Staff members of the office have made great performance in pushing forward foreign affairs work amid the COVID-19 outbreak," said Li Xiaoping, the office's director.
Looking into 2021, Li stressed that more efforts are needed to ensure that COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control measures are implemented strictly. Other focuses for the year include finding innovations for international exchanges, strengthening ties with BRICS countries, and optimizing the office's work mechanism.
Li noted that 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and themed activities will be held to combine the celebrations with foreign affairs work.
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
