An online exhibition platform for international sister cities of Xiamen, Fujian province was launched on Sept 8 as part of the 2020 China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT) which kicked off on the same day, Xiamen Daily reported.
The platform offers basic information about Xiamen's sister cities and showcases the achievements that the cities have made during exchanges in various fields, as well as the prospects of future cooperation.
Since the establishment of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone in 1980, the city has established sister city ties with 21 cities in Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. All of them have actively participated in the CIFIT in the previous years.
In light of the travel restrictions due to the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, the foreign affairs office of Xiamen worked with the organizing committee of the 2020 CIFIT to set up the online platform so as to allow its international peers to take part in a virtual manner.
Officials said that the platform, which aims to further deepen the friendship and cooperation in trade, culture, tourism, education, and science and technology between Xiamen and its international sister cities, will be updated with new information regularly.
