Li Xiaoping, director of the foreign affairs office of Xiamen, Fujian province (XMFAO) met with Pirawat Atsavapranee, the newly-appointed consul-general of Thailand, in Xiamen on Aug 18.
Li extended a warm welcome to the consul-general and reviewed the joint efforts that have been made by XMFAO and the Royal Thai Consulate General in Xiamen to promote exchange in economy, culture and education, and strengthen the partnership between Xiamen and Thailand.
Atsavapranee thanked XMFAO and the city for their consistent support and the assistance rendered to help Phuket fight the COVID-19 outbreak.
The consul-general said he has been impressed by the beauty and hospitality of the city, and that he is looking forward to working with XMFAO to deepen bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence, big data, smart city, and education.
Atsavapranee shared that the consulate general will take part in the 2020 China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), which is scheduled to be held in Xiamen from Sept 8 to 11. He said that Thailand will set up a special exhibition hall as well as have a presence on "Cloud CIFIT", a virtual space where visitors can browse products, conduct negotiations, sign agreements and place orders.
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
