1. XMFAO welcomes Japanese delegation

Li Xiaoping, director of the foreign affairs office of Xiamen, Fujian province (XMFAO), met with a delegation from Marubeni Co, a Japanese trading and investment company, on July 15.

Li extended a warm welcome to the delegation and discussed with Shinoda Toshio, chairman and general manager of Marubeni (Shanghai) Co, about deepening cooperation between the two sides.

Lin Zhenya, deputy director of Xiamen's commerce bureau, spoke about the city's trade with Japan, suggesting that the two sides strengthen cooperation in the coffee roasting sector, cross-border e-commerce and third-party markets.

2. XMFAO officials meet with South Korean businesspeople

Li Xiaoping, director of the foreign affairs office of Xiamen, Fujian province (XMFAO) met with delegates from the city's South Korean chamber of commerce on July 16 to update them about the latest preferential policies for companies amid the COVID-19 outbreak and learn about South Korean companies' operations in the city.

Li said that cooperation between Chinese and South Korean people in fighting the epidemic has set a good example for other countries. He also thanked South Korean people living in Xiamen for their support for the city's battle against the virus.

Byun Ho-sik, chairman of the chamber, stated that many South Korean people in Xiamen have been living in the city for decades and consider it a home away from home.

3. XMFAO helps students from poor families

Officers from the foreign affairs office of Xiamen, Fujian province (XMFAO) visited three students from impoverished families in Xiang'an district on July 24 to learn about their living and academic situations.

During the visit, officers presented the students with greetings cards expressing the well wishes of XMFAO staff as well as subsidies to help improve their living standards. They also encouraged the students to study hard and be confident of their future.

A pairing system for poor students was established by the city’s Party working committee and charity federation a few years ago as part of poverty reduction efforts.

XMFAO has been actively participating in the program and providing financial assistance and psychological support to the students.
