Spanish folk songs, Argentinian tango and Brazilian Jiujitsu were performed at Yefengzhai beach in Xiamen, Fujian province, on June 13.
These performances were not part of a cultural event, but a birthday party for Eugenia, a 43-year-old Spanish teacher at Xiamen University.
The party was attended by more than 20 of Eugenia's friends from around the world.
"This is our first beach party since the start of the COVID-19 epidemic," said Eugenia, who left Argentina to study in China 13 years ago.
During the party, Eugenia showed off his permanent residence permit to a journalist from Xiamen Daily and declared his love for the city.
"We've realized that everyone has gained weight since we last met. I've put on 10 kilograms because I love Xiamen food so much. My favorite dishes are tusundong (sea worm jelly), hailijian (pan-fried oysters in scrambled egg) and Shacha noodles," said Eugenia.
The beach along Huandao Road has become a popular destination for leisure among local expats, Xiamen Daily reported.
Eugenia said that he and his friends often play volleyball and football at the beach during the weekends. It is also common to see foreigners sunbathing, taking photos or shooting videos in the area.
Three Canadian students at Xiamen University told Xiamen Daily that they have documented their lives in the city in videos that were sent to families and friends back home.
"I've gotten used to life in Xiamen. It's just like a home away from home," said Neiira, one of the students.
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
