A boot filled with face masks and Chinese items such as tea, tea sets, chessboards and bookmarks, arrived at Lycée Alain Chartier, a high school in Bayeux, France on June 5, Xiamen Daily reported.
The gifts were sent by students from the Xiamen Foreign Language School to support their peers amid the novel coronavirus outbreak in March. Due to transportation restrictions during the outbreak, it took three months for them to arrive at their destination.
Their arrival was broadcast live and witnessed by more than one million netizens.
"I miss you very much, my friends. I hope the pandemic will be over soon and I'm looking forward to meeting you again," said Wang Xiyan, a student representative from the Xiamen Foreign Language School, during the online party.
Jean-François LESACHER, principal of Lycée Alain Chartier, thanked the school and said he cherishes the friendship from the bottom of his heart.
"China is so far away, but sometimes it seems like we're so close, like today," said the principal.
The two schools established their partnership in May 2010 and have maintained close cooperation since then.
In March, the Xiamen Foreign Language School students also sent a video in which they sang songs and played musical instruments to show solidity with their French counterparts amid the ongoing health crisis.
