At the invitation of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Generoso Calonge, assistant Foreign Minister of the Philippines and director of Philippine Ocean Affairs Department, visited Xiamen, Fujian province from April 7 to 10.
Calonge discussed hot issues, including marine biodiversity, tackling climate change, and controlling marine microplastics, with researchers from the Institute of Marine and coastal development of Xiamen University and the Third Institute of Oceanography of Ministry of Natural Resources.
He expressed wishes of promoting the practical cooperation between Xiamen and the Philippines on marine environmental protection.
Kong Suting, deputy director of Xiamen's Foreign Affairs Office, met with Calonge on April 7.
Kong briefed him on Xiamen's economic and social development, expecting both sides to carry out more exchanges in trade, tourism and culture.
