Headed by the ambassador of El Salvador to China, a delegation of journalists from major media in the Central American country visited Xiamen, Fujian province from April 7 to 8.
Han Jingyi, deputy mayor of Xiamen, met the delegation on April 7 and briefed them on the city's economic and social development.
Han hoped that Xiamen and El Salvador will make good use of the Belt and Road Initiative to promote their practical cooperation as China is seeing close ties with El Salvador.
"Xiamen is open wider to the outside world," said Walter Durán Martínez, ambassador of El Salvador to China, expecting the city to play an important role in foreign trade between the two countries.
Durán added that they will organize a delegation to attend the China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT) in September.
The CIFIT, an annual investment promotion event held in Xiamen, has grown into the largest, most influential and most comprehensive two-way investment promotion event in the world.
China has decided to extend its visa waiver policy to ordinary passport holders from Canada and the United Kingdom starting from Feb 17.
Forty-one new port-of-entry duty-free shops have been established nationwide, with Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport, Xiamen Wutong Passenger Wharf, and Xiamen International Cruise Center included on the list.
