Yu Weiguo, Party chief of Fujian, on Thursday, called for more efforts to build Xiamen into an innovation hub, a pivotal city bolstering the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road as well as a spearhead in the nation's new round of reform and opening-up.
Yu made the remarks at a panel meeting with the Xiamen delegation amid the second session of the 13th Fujian People's Congress that opened in Fuzhou on Jan 14.
Also he urged Xiamen to further cement its ties with Taiwan and play a leading role in the coordinated and integrated development in Southwest Fujian.
Meanwhile, the Party chief emphasized the significance of ecological conservation, calling for more efforts in the improvement of people's livelihoods.
China has decided to extend its visa waiver policy to ordinary passport holders from Canada and the United Kingdom starting from Feb 17.
Forty-one new port-of-entry duty-free shops have been established nationwide, with Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport, Xiamen Wutong Passenger Wharf, and Xiamen International Cruise Center included on the list.
