A delegation from Malaysia headed by Yeoh Soon Hin, executive councillor of Penang State and chairman of the Penang Bridge International Marathon, visited Xiamen, Fujian province from Jan 5 to 8.
The delegation was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the 2019 Xiamen International Marathon on Jan 6.
Huang Wenhui, member of the standing committee of the CPC Xiamen Municipal Party Committee, met the delegation after the race.
The two sides discussed the resumption of direct flights between Xiamen and Penang as well as their cooperation in tourism and sports.
Penang State, located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia, is the second smallest Malaysian state by land mass but has the highest Gross Domestic Product per capita among all Malaysian states.
The state's capital Penang established a sister-city relationship with Xiamen on November 10, 1993 and since then both places have conducted frequent exchanges in political, economic, trade, and cultural affairs.
