Registration for the 2019 Cross-Straits Industrial Design Contest opened on Dec 11. Participants are able to sign up for the event via its official website, www.xida.org.cn before the end of April, 2019.
This year, the entrants will cover six categories of products, namely smart manufacturing, electronics, home appliance, sports and leisure, creative culture and tourism, as well as the newly-added one - emerging technologies- which include artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction.
Its winners shall share a whopping prize worth 1.5 million yuan ($ 217,789) in total.
Meanwhile, a raft of activities is set to accompany it, such as an exhibition featuring cross-Straits industrial design works by college students.
According to Lin Tungli, secretary-general of the Taiwan Good Design Association, the exhibition expects to gather 1,000 excellent design works from the island.
Chen Quanzhi, director of the Xiamen Industrial Design Association, said the competition will offer a platform for furthering cross-Straits cooperation and exchanges in the sector and help boost the commercialization of great design products.
Organized by the city of Xiamen, the Fujian Economic and Information Commission and the China Industry News and Taiwan Good Design Association, the biennial event originated in 2013, has become a major part of the design industry's calendar.
