Fifty teenagers from Australia with Chinese ethnicity embarked on a 12-day summer camp on Chinese culture in Xiamen, Fujian province on July 10.

Yao Jianhong, deputy director of Xiamen's Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, briefed them on the coastal city's beautiful scenic spots and local customs and traditions.

Yao encouraged them to make full use of this camp to learn Chinese and experience different aspects of Chinese culture so as to contribute to the friendly relations between China and Australia.

Numerous classes are being put on for the teenagers, including some on learning the Chinese language, traditional Chinese culture, calligraphy, Chinese martial arts, and ancient Chinese poems, as well as trips to see the sights of Xiamen during the camp.

The summer camp is sponsored by China's State Council and organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Fujian Provincial Government and the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Xiamen Municipal Government.
