More than 54.3 billion yuan ($8.5 billion) has been generated by Xiamen's foreign trade in the first month of 2018, up by 14.1 percent year-on-year, citing statistics from the coastal city's customs.
Of the total foreign trade, the export trade reached 30 billion yuan, an 11.5 percent increase year-on-year and the import one totaled 24.3 billion yuan, a 17.5 percent increase year-on-year.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the United States and the European Union ranked among Xiamen's top three foreign trade partners during the same period, the total imports and exports of which accounted for 50 percent of the city's foreign trade.
Mechanical and electrical products, labor intensive and farmer products are the main export products while integrated circuit, coals, paper pulp and dairy products are the main import products.
China has decided to extend its visa waiver policy to ordinary passport holders from Canada and the United Kingdom starting from Feb 17.
Forty-one new port-of-entry duty-free shops have been established nationwide, with Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport, Xiamen Wutong Passenger Wharf, and Xiamen International Cruise Center included on the list.
