A delegation led by the Publicity Department of the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee paid a visit to the US earlier this month to promote Xiamen city after the BRICS Summit.
During the visit, the delegation held Xiamen city promotional events and sat down with major local Chinese media and overseas Chinese associations to discuss the launch of Xiamen promotional publications and TV programs (namely the Common Talk Weekly run by Xiamen Daily and the Xiamen Star TV), which yielded fruitful results.
In New York, the delegation held talks with the World Journal, a noted Chinese newspaper and online media outlet in North America, on media exchange between China and the US. Both sides agreed that it would help American people to learn more about the development of Xiamen and China as a whole through enhanced bilateral cooperation.
A preliminary agreement on cooperation was reached after exchange of opinion upon issues including content swap between the World Journal and Common Talk Weekly, as well as the publication and distribution of Common Talk Weekly newspaper in the US The delegation also interacted extensively with the US China Press and NewsAgencyAmerica.com.
The delegation hosted Xiamen city promotional events in New York and Los Angeles, introducing the city's social and economic development while playing a Xiamen promotional film and distributing leaflets, postcards and copies of Common Talk Weekly newspaper.
More than 100 leaders from a dozen overseas Chinese associations and various business organizations attended the events, including the American Fujianese Business Association Inc., the Minnan Association of USA, Inc, the Xiamen Association (USA) and the Chinese American Federation. The attendees highly complimented the achievements Xiamen has made and expressed the wish to visit their ancestral home one day and support Xiamen's development.
