More than 2,000 volunteers serving the summit were selected from universities based in Xiamen including Xiamen University, Huaqiao University and Jimei University. Many of them are from southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Laos. They will offer voluntary service for the summit slated for Sept 3-5 in the eastern coastal city after two months' training.

China has decided to extend its visa waiver policy to ordinary passport holders from Canada and the United Kingdom starting from Feb 17.
Forty-one new port-of-entry duty-free shops have been established nationwide, with Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport, Xiamen Wutong Passenger Wharf, and Xiamen International Cruise Center included on the list.
