Macao union officials visit beautiful port city in E China

Zhuang Jiahan, acting mayor of Xiamen, received a delegation from the Macao Federation of Trade Unions on Oct 10.

Zhuang discussed Xiamen’s social and economic development with his guests, adding that a society’s socioeconomic growth relies on the support of trade unions.

Zhuang lauded the federation’s patriotism, support for the development of domestic society, its contribution to the prosperity and stabilization of Macao and to the exchange and cooperation between Macao and the mainland.

The Xiamen government attaches great importance to the workof trade unions in the city. It hosts joint meetings with the federation of trade unions in the city annually to give guidance on vocational training, coordinating relations between employers and employees, and protecting the rights of employees.

The exchange between the Xiamen government and the federation was expected to boost the work of trade unions in the two cities.

Zhuang said that Xiamen and Macao have established close ties over a long period of exchange and cooperation. He explained the hopes of the Macao delegates to learn more about Xiamen during this visit so that they will see Xiamen as their first choice in the mainland to start business ventures.

The delegation, which included some 600 Macao workers,were invited to several landmarks in the city, including the scenic Gulangyu Island, the cultural highland of Jimei village in Jiamei district, and the preserved food supplier Gulong Co’s cultural park that features traditional sauce making techniques.

The delegation also visited the Tan Kah Kee Memorial Museum in Jimei district that honors the patriotic overseas Chinese known for his contribution to the development of education and industry in Xiamen, and for his support for the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
