The president of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, Jackson Chang, confirmed on May 11 that Macao will feature at the 2016 China International Fair for Investment & Trade as the Guest Region of Honor.
As the guest region of honor, Macao will host a series of promotional activities at the September fair in Xiamen, Fujian province, and a 180-square-meter Macao Pavilion with the focus on investment will be set up.
Macao will stage a week-long promotional event under the slogan "Dynamic Macao". It will include roadshows and specialty products exhibitions on a 6,000 sqm space dedicated to Macao trade, tourism and culture exhibitors.
The fair's organizers plan to host a presentation in late June in Macao to introduce its services and attempt to woo over Macao businesses to take part in the fair.
Macao has focused on developing its international tourism and leisure hub and aims to boost trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries by offering brokerage services.
The city also looks to increase business relations with Xiamen, the coastal city in southeast China, to foster a more diversified economic growth.
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
