Organizers of the China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT) visited the headquarters of the Japan-China Investment Promotion Organization in Tokyo (JCIPO) on May 16.
Shinji Shimahara, a senior officer from the organization, led a five-member team to hold talks with the Chinese delegation.
The fair organizers expressed their hope for JCIPO to exert its influence and help increase the fair's popularity among small and medium companies in Japan.
Shimahara said that the JCIPO plans to organize a Japanese delegation to join the 2016 fair in Xiamen, Fujian province, in September. He also expressed the hope to be invited to a symposium for international companies.
The two sides reached a consensus on formulating a long-term working mechanism for coordination.
CIFIT organizers also visited the headquarters of Japan External Trade Organization while in Tokyo. Kenji Shimizu, the trade organization's director of overseas strategies was briefed on the highlights of the 2016 fair and the news on the Guest Country of Honor campaign.
The fair organizers called on JETRO to include diverse exhibitors in their business delegation when joining the fair and suggested that the two sides sign a memorandum of understanding to increase cooperation between small and medium-sized companies from China and Japan.
Shimizu said that JETRO will participate in the 2016 fair to present the strengths of Japanese enterprises.
Shimizu was also interested in the Guest Country of Honor title and related promotional events. He said that they plan to utilize the fair's networking platform to introduce Japan's investment policies. JETRO will offer consulting services and assistance to Chinese companies interested in investing in Japan, he said.
The organizers also visited the Economic and Commercial Counselor's Office at the China Embassy in Japan. Counselor Jing Chunhai said that the office will make more efforts to encourage Japanese companies and business organizations to take part in the fair.
Jing also urged for the organizers to improve publicity and advertising efforts in Japan and said that the office will be supportive in building a long-term cooperative relationship with Japanese business promotion agencies.
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
