Jimei, Xiamen hosted last Friday China's final round of the Miss Tourism World competition. A total of 22 contestants competed in various events, including cheongsam, bikini and evening dress displays. Yu Wang, a first-year student from the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, claimed the crown.
Miss Tourism World debuted in 1968 in Houston and is now contested in a dozen countries, including Australia, Brazil and Canada. The district of Jimei joined Xiamen's tourism bureau in organizing the event, which was a part of the Cross-Strait Tourism Fair. Event sponsors donated 45,000 yuan to charities that provide support to underprivileged households and children in Jimei.
China announced and implemented on May 15 a policy allowing visa-free entry of foreign tourist groups aboard cruise ships via all cruise ship ports along the country's coastline.
China and Georgia are set to waive visa requirements for travelers starting May 28.
