2016 CIFIT gets exposure at Sao Paulo, Brazil

Organizers of the 2016 China International Fair for Investment & Trade held a promotional event in Sao Paulo on Sunday to drum up global interest in it.

In attendance was Fu Changhua, deputy consul general at the consulate general of China in Sao Paulo; Li Xiaoling, president of the South America Association of Minnan; Laercio Benko, alderman in the city of São Paulo; and Jiang Meiyue, Party secretary of the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs. The bureau is responsible for organizing the fair, which will held in the coastal city of Xiamen, Fujian province, from Sept 8-11.

Close to 100 overseas Chinese living in Sao Paolo participated in the event, including leaders of overseas Chinese groups and representatives of overseas Chinese businessmen.

Li Xiaoling addressed the event and gave a warm welcome to the Xiamen delegation, led by Jiang Meiyue. Li said that Brazil and China are both developing countries and there is huge potential to realize economic growth through bilateral cooperation. Li went on to say that the event will provide the vital information needed for overseas Chinese to invest confidently in Xiamen and other promising cities in China, and will increase economic and trade exchanges between the two countries.

Deputy consul general Fu Changhua of the China consulate general in Sao Paolo greeted the Xiamen delegation and wished the event every success, on behalf of consul general Chen Xi.

Laercio Benko acclaimed the cementing ties between the two countries and China’s success in achieving tremendous economic growth.

Benko also said that increasing cooperation with China is highly valued by the city council of Sao Paulo, and they will make efforts to push cooperation in economic development and culture.

Li Huilong, director of the Hong Kong and Macao affairs unit at the Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Xiamen, introduced the work being done in Xiamen concerning foreign and overseas Chinese affairs.

Li Huilong and Li Xiaoling signed a cooperation agreement between Xiamen Overseas Friendship Association and the South America Association of Minnan.

Chen Wenshui, deputy director of the convention affairs department at the Xiamen Municipal Bureau of Convention and Exhibition Affairs, detailed the plan for the 2016 fair. According to Chen, the fair will attract some 16,000 attendees from business organizations and multinational corporations from more than 100 countries and regions, with 50,000 of them coming from China.

Raising connectivity and promoting business opportunity will be at the heart of this year’s fair. The Belt and Road Initiative, free trade policies, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Internet Plus and merger financing services will also be hot topics.

Chen said overseas Chinese in Brazil and Brazilian entrepreneurs are welcome to take part in the coming fair to exhibit their quality products and services and discover investment opportunities.
