New Thai consul general takes office in Xiamen

Mayor Pei Jinjia of Xiamen met with Tajtai Tmangraksat, consul-general of the Thai Consulate General in Xiamen, on Dec 23. Tmangraksat has acted as the fourth consul-general in the city after arriving there on Nov 28.

Pei welcomed Tmangraksat and introduced him to the city’s latest developments and the long-standing history of exchanges between Thailand and Xiamen. He expressed great appreciation to the Thai consulate general in Xiamen for facilitating exchanges and cooperation between both sides in areas of economy and trade, culture and education. 

Pei hoped to establish an official sister city relationship between Xiamen and Phuket, Thailand, as soon as possible with the assistance of Consul General Tmangraksat.

Tmangraksat showed great importance on the exchange and cooperation between Thailand and Fujian province, as well as Xiamen. He conveyed the gratitude of the first three Thailand consul generals in Xiamen for the support and assistance provided by the Xiamen municipal government. 

Since assuming office, Tmangraksat has hosted several events, including a party to celebrate the 88th birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and celebrations for the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand and the 40th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic relations.

The consulate general is preparing for activities related to Thailand to welcome the upcoming 5th Nanyang Culture Festival. The festival will kick off on April 23 and act as a cultural exchange between Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam. A Thai delegation in economy and trade, and culture will participate in the festival.

In addition, the consulate general has sought to facilitate the establishment of Xiamen-Phuket sister city relationship with the Foreign Ministry of the Kingdom of Thailand. He expects to lead the Phuket delegation to sign official sister city agreement in Xiamen during the Nanyang Culture Festival.
