Xiamen and Malaysia deepen cooperation in various sectors
Zhuang Rongliang, vice-mayor of Xiamen city, met with Suraya Binti Ahmad Pauzi, Malaysia's consul general in Guangzhou on Dec 5.
Zhuang said that Xiamen has had a sister-city relationship with Penang, Malaysia for over 30 years, with frequent exchanges taking place between government officials from both sides. The two cities have also undertaken cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, and education.
Zhuang noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Malaysia. He hopes that efforts will be made to consolidate and expand cooperation between Xiamen and Malaysia in various fields.
Suraya said that Malaysia and Xiamen share a special historical connection, and cultural, economic, and trade exchanges have frequently taken place.
Penang had also sent a high-level delegation to the 23rd China International Fair for Investment and Trade this year.
The recent mutual visa exemption arrangements between China and Malaysia are also expected to greatly facilitate the travel of citizens between the two countries.
