New Zealand China Friendship Society President Chris Lipscombe paid a visit on May 9-11 to Xiamen – in East China's Fujian province – which promoted commerce and trade and cultural exchanges between the city and New Zealand.

Lin Na, vice-president of the Xiamen People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, met Lipscombe on May 10. Lin discussed communications between the sister cities of Xiamen and Wellington, as well as the achievements that Xiamen had made in advancing its development.

It was decided that Xiamen would work together with the New Zealand China Friendship Society to help promote the integration of the resources of New Zealand and Xiamen to achieve mutual benefits, Lin said.

For his part, Lipscombe said his society could act as a bridge so New Zealanders might learn more about China. He said it could also promote more cooperation between New Zealand and Xiamen in commerce and trade, education, art, tourism and in other fields.

During the visit, Lipscombe visited Xiamen University and exchanged ideas on Chinese education, personnel communications and visits, as well as efforts to improve mutual understanding between China and New Zealand.
