The Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital – affiliated to Xiamen University in Xiamen – and Messejana Hospital in Brazil held their first video conference on April 10, to exchange views and know-how on cardiovascular health.

The conference was supported and facilitated by the foreign affairs offices of Fujian and Xiamen.

The two sides briefed each other on the development history, as well as the clinical and medical research achievements of their respective hospitals.

Wang Yan, president of the Xiamen Cardiovascular Hospital, praised Messejana Hospital for completing more than 500 heart transplants since its establishment, demonstrating its top-flight medical technology and leading international position in the field.

He said that strengthening medical and health cooperation between China and Brazil was of great significance for the health of the two peoples – and invited Brazilian medical experts to participate in the BRICS cardiovascular health visiting scholar program.

Lin Na, vice-president of the Xiamen People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, said that the BRICS cardiovascular health visiting scholar program would bring new opportunities and impetus for medical and health cooperation between the two sides, forging a promising future.

She said that in the current year, Xiamen and Brazil's Fortaleza city would officially become sister cities. She added that this would help create more and improved platforms for expanding cooperation in various fields, including medical care, between the two.
